We take old technology and give it a new lease on life.
We do our best to provide quality technology and educational resources to our local community. We are dependent on donations for what we have in stock and what we can place. We will attempt to honor your requests in the form below and assess each on a case-by-case basis. Our technology does not come with any warranties expressed or implied. We do not have the capacity for individual support requests but will do our best to answer questions should they arise after placement.
Our technology is totally free! Once we give you a computer, it is yours to keep. If you would like to pay it forward, you are welcome to return it for the next recipient to use.
Social workers, advocates, etc are welcome to apply on behalf of an eligible person.
Eligibility:
- Students in Linn or Benton County.
- Individuals on a fixed income in the Albany, Oregon, area.
- Startup businesses with limited funding, in Lane, Linn, or Benton County.
- Registered non-profits in the State of Oregon.
- Individuals experiencing homelessness or are living in transitional housing in the Albany, Oregon area.
- Other individuals on a case-by-case basis.
Our Computers: Unless specifically requested, all our technology placements are laptops. Some are larger laptops that are big and bulky. Some are smaller and more portable. Many have older batteries that hold some charge – we generally purchase a new battery for laptops with batteries that are totally dead. Almost all laptops come with new solid state hard drives with fresh operating system installations.
Options: Most laptops are refurbished Windows machines from companies like Dell, HP, Acer, etc. These can be reformatted with Windows 10 or 11, or converted into a Chromebook. Your options for computers are:
- Chromebooks – these are popular with students since it’s the system most use in school. This is also a good setup for users looking for a very simple computer to use. It is effectively a Chrome browser – so anything you can do inside of Chrome, you can do on these machines. The limitation, however, is that it’s not possible to install applications outside of items available in the Chrome Web Store.
- Windows 10 – this operating system will allow you to run any application you want but sometimes can be slower, especially on an older computer. It can be more complex for some users as well, depending on the technology literacy of the user.
